Scholar Government

At Paradigm Schools, every scholar is part of the scholar government. And just like the founding fathers, we even have a constitutional convention and debate process. Our scholars put together the constitution themselves and have regular congress meetings twice a month to make any needed amendments. We even have a presidency, congress, and cabinet! It is by this process that our scholars put together activities, give feedback to our administration, and even make changes to our school uniform.

You can read the full rules we hold our scholars accountable to and learn more about the process they can follow to make a real change during their education.

New scholars, if you’ve ever felt like you didn’t have an opportunity to share your ideas in your previous school environments, please know that this intentional process was put in place just for you. Here, everyone can have a voice!

How Our Scholar Government Works

Similar to an actual government system, scholars are elected through their peers as each Seminar Class elects a President and Vice President. The scholars in these positions take an oath to uphold that they will do to the best of their ability to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of Paradigm High School. Through a scholar-created constitution, our scholars can learn valuable skills in leadership and an understanding of government as they create and enact laws that can help the whole body of our school.

Our focus is to create a balance that is fair, scholar-run, and gives a voice to all scholars of the school through scholar-elected officials. While our mentors will guide and direct as necessary, this type of leadership and organization is another element on how we teach our scholars how to think, not what to think, as they discover the best ways to handle their education and the education of their peers.

This system is designed to allow opportunities for various scholars to take part, as Representatives are chosen every semester through our many Seminar Classes. At the end of the semester, scholars can go through a re-election process where they must be voted for again if they want to keep their seat, similar to an actual government.

With our constitution, you can read through the thorough process our representatives must follow, how they can enact rules, and what qualifications they have to meet to stay in office.

Election Application Process

If your scholar is interested in running for the office of President or Vice President, our mentors and classes will talk about the process, so it’s crucial each scholar is aware of when elections happen at the beginning of the semester.

If your scholar is interested, they must:

  • Fill out an application
  • Receive 10 scholar signatures supporting candidate’s campaign

From there, scholars run campaigns where they can be voted into office! It’s a great way to develop social and leadership skills that many classes simply can’t replicate.

I went to Paradigm all through high school. Best experience ever. Not only did it help me focus on my strengths, but it also prepared me for college with its challenging curriculum that makes you think outside the box. The mentors there care about each of their students individually, and want nothing more than the students’ success.
